  • The Atlanta Film Festival once again proved why it remains one of the top destinations for independent film, creative storytelling, and emerging talent. This year, Allegedly Media had the privilege of attending the festival to provide exclusive coverage from the red carpet, screenings, and special events. One of the biggest highlights of our experience was interviewing the talented cast and producers of False Start, including Ella Price, Julia Daigh, and Magddalen Silver.

During our conversation, the team shared valuable insight into the making of False Start and the inspiration behind the project. They discussed the dedication, teamwork, and creative passion it took to bring the story to life. The cast also opened up about their experiences preparing for their roles and why this film was such a meaningful project to be part of.

What stood out most during the interview was hearing how deeply connected the cast and producers were to the message of the film. False Start explores the reality that life does not always go as planned, but setbacks can often lead to growth, new opportunities, and self-discovery. That powerful theme is something many viewers can relate to, which is why the film made such a strong impression at the festival.

Hearing directly from Ella Price, Julia Daigh, and Magddalen Silver gave our team a greater appreciation for the hard work and commitment required to create an independent film. Their passion for storytelling was clear, and it showed in both their performances and the overall quality of the project.

The Atlanta Film Festival continues to provide a platform for filmmakers to share bold and meaningful stories, and False Start was a perfect example of that mission. Allegedly Media was honored to connect with the creative minds behind the film and help spotlight their work.

As we continue to grow our presence in entertainment media, experiences like this remind us of the importance of supporting independent cinema and giving audiences access to the voices behind the stories they love.

  • Video gaming addiction is growing every day, and the way children spend their time has drastically changed over the years. It is becoming increasingly rare to see kids between the ages of 6 to 14 riding bikes, playing outside, or staying out until the streetlights come on. Instead, many children are immersed in digital worlds, trading outdoor play for screen time. Traditional toys like LEGO blocks or action figures have taken a backseat as technology continues to dominate childhood experiences.

In today’s gaming environment, kids are not just playing—they are interacting with peers across the globe, building friendships, and even learning skills like coding and game design. While these advancements can offer educational and social benefits, there is also a growing concern about the darker side of gaming, particularly its impact on mental health. For example, a report from ABC News highlights that increased screen time among children is linked to higher levels of anxiety, aggression, and low self-esteem, suggesting that excessive gaming can contribute to emotional and behavioral challenges. You can read more here: https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Wellness/increased-screen-time-linked-aggression-anxiety-low-esteem/story?id=122699364

The issue becomes even more serious when gaming turns into addiction. Research discussed by The Guardian found that teens who develop addictive gaming habits are two to three times more likely to experience depression, suicidal thoughts, and other mental health struggles. This shows that it is not just the act of playing video games, but the level of dependency that can have long-term psychological effects on young minds. Learn more here: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/jun/18/teenagers-social-media-mobile-phones-video-games-mental-health

Another factor contributing to this issue is how modern video games are designed. According to Newsweek, many of today’s games include competitive ranking systems, rewards, and constant updates that are specifically created to keep players engaged for long periods. This design can lead to increased stress, lack of sleep, and difficulty disconnecting from the game. As a result, when parents ask their children to stop playing, it often leads to meltdowns or tantrums because the child may feel emotionally attached or overstimulated. Read more here: https://www.newsweek.com/experts-reveal-how-90s-games-shaped-kids-brains-differently-11150806

While video games are not entirely negative and can provide learning opportunities, balance is essential. Parents and caregivers must encourage children to spend time outdoors, read, and engage in real-world interactions. As gaming continues to evolve, it is important to stay aware of both its benefits and risks to ensure that children are not only leveling up in games—but also maintaining their mental health in real life.

🎮 Video games aren’t just “fun” — they train the brain. And not always in a good way. Here’s what’s happening neurologically ⬇️ • Video games trigger dopamine release in the brain’s reward center (nucleus accumbens) • Over time, that dopamine response blunts • Kids (and adults) need more play to feel the same reward • When they stop playing, dopamine can dip below baseline What does that look like in real life? ❌ Irritability ❌ Low motivation ❌ Trouble focusing on school or chores ❌ Mood crashes when screens turn off This doesn’t mean video games are evil — but unlimited access rewires motivation and attention. 🧠 The goal isn’t elimination. ⚖️ It’s balance. Practical tips for parents: • Set clear time limits • Avoid gaming right before bed • Balance screens with exercise, sunlight, and real-world rewards • Watch mood and behavior after gaming — not just during If this helped, follow for brain-based parenting tips and share this with a parent who’s fighting the screen-time battle 🎯 #parenting #videogames #parents #adhd #mentalhealth

  • When the monks made their way through Morrow, Georgia, it was more than just a visit it was a moment of unity, reflection, and inspiration. Allegedly Media had the opportunity to be there on the ground, covering the event and experiencing firsthand what many described as a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

The atmosphere was filled with anticipation. Although the monks arrived behind schedule, the crowd never wavered. Instead, the delay seemed to build even more excitement as people gathered, waited, and reflected on the significance of the moment. By the time they arrived, the space was packed—a full house of individuals from all walks of life, each bringing their own reason for being there.

For some, it was about spiritual curiosity. For others, it was about seeking peace, clarity, or simply witnessing something meaningful. But for us at Allegedly Media, the purpose was clear: to document and share an experience that doesn’t come around often—the presence of spiritual leaders who have dedicated their lives to a higher purpose.

These monks didn’t just appear in Morrow by chance. Their journey began in Texas, walking mile by mile with the goal of reaching the state capital. That kind of commitment speaks volumes. It requires not only physical endurance but also immense mental strength, discipline, and mindfulness. Years of meditation, spiritual practice, and devotion have shaped their path, allowing them to carry a message that transcends background, belief systems, and differences.

Their mission is simple yet powerful: to spread love, promote mindfulness, and encourage unity—no matter a person’s faith or deity. In a world that often feels divided, their presence served as a reminder that connection, compassion, and inner peace are still within reach.

Being there wasn’t just about coverage—it was about experiencing something meaningful. It was about witnessing the impact of faith, mental clarity, and physical discipline coming together for a greater purpose. Events like this remind us that when you take care of your mental and physical health, stay grounded in your beliefs, and move with intention, anything is possible.

For Allegedly Media, this wasn’t just another story—it was a moment we won’t forget.

  • In the midst of a global pandemic that brought uncertainty to millions, stories of survival continue to shine as reminders of resilience, faith, and second chances. For Tony Sharpe, his battle with COVID-19 was more than a health scare—it was a turning point that reshaped his life in ways he never imagined.

What started as mild symptoms quickly escalated into a serious condition that forced Tony to confront the reality of how dangerous the virus could be. “At first, I thought it was something small,” Tony recalled. “But when my breathing changed, everything became real.” That moment marked the beginning of a difficult journey—one that tested his strength physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Standing beside him through it all was Pamela Pressley, his caretaker and unwavering support system. Pamela took on the responsibility of caring for Tony during his most vulnerable moments, navigating uncertainty while remaining a source of stability. “It was hard not knowing what each day would bring,” she shared. “But I knew I had to stay strong—not just for him, but for both of us.”

Their journey didn’t end with recovery—it evolved into something greater. In the process of healing, Tony and Pamela made a life-changing decision to bring comfort and companionship into their home by welcoming a support animal named Thurston. Now three years old and approaching his fourth birthday this October, Thurston has become a symbol of emotional healing and joy in their lives. His presence brought a sense of peace during a time that once felt overwhelming. Tuffs Now explains how pets can provide comfort in the face of isolation and anxiety for patients who were dealing with these effects during covid https://now.tufts.edu/2020/03/30/how-animals-help-us-during-covid-19-pandemic

Even more inspiring, Tony didn’t allow his experience to hold him back. Instead, he used it as motivation to pursue a lifelong dream. After recovering, he successfully opened his own restaurant, Mad Dad Philly’s, turning his passion into a reality. What once seemed uncertain became a testament to perseverance and determination.

“I look at life differently now,” Tony said. “I’m grateful for every opportunity, and opening my restaurant showed me that anything is possible after what I’ve been through.”

For Pamela, the experience reinforced the power of love, resilience, and support. “Caregiving changes you,” she explained. “It teaches you patience, strength, and how important it is to be there for the people you love.”https://pennmemorycenter.org/the-hidden-struggle-caregiving-during-the-pandemic/ article explains how the stressor’s of dealing with loved ones during covid took a toll on the mental health of several care givers, Pamela had the support of family members to help reduce mental strain.

Today, Tony and Pamela’s story stands as more than just a survival story—it’s a story of growth, new beginnings, and purpose. According to the New York times several people found passion into starting up business during Covid -19 and after Pandemic Start-Ups Are Thriving, and Helping to Fuel the …
From overcoming COVID-19 to building a business and finding comfort in their loyal companion Thurston, their journey is proof that even in life’s darkest moments, something meaningful can still emerge.

  • For many families in today’s economy, balancing work and childcare has become one of the most difficult challenges parents face. Rising childcare costs and limited financial assistance programs have forced many parents to make tough decisions about their careers, income, and family responsibilities.

According to a report from care.com families spend an average of 27% of their household income on childcare, which is significantly higher than the 7% that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services considers affordablehttps://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230613495283/en/New-Care.com-Report-Reveals-Soaring-Childcare-Costs-Are-Crippling-Majority-of-American-Families? his financial strain has left many parents struggling to maintain full-time work while ensuring their children receive safe and reliable care.

During my reporting, I spoke with Towanna Bridges Oats, the operations manager for First Steps Childcare Center in Covington, Georgia. Oats explained that her center accepts the government’s CAPS (Childcare and Parent Services) program, which helps many working families pay for childcare. However, not every parent qualifies for the program. Oats said she understands the difficulties families face when they fall outside the eligibility requirements. Because of this, she tries to work with parents whenever possible.

“We do our best to accommodate parents,” Oats explained. “If they don’t qualify for CAPS, we may offer short-term days of care or a customized program that fits their situation.”

Her approach reflects a growing trend among childcare providers who are trying to adapt to the financial realities families face. Some centers are adjusting schedules, offering flexible hours, or creating alternative care options to help working parents maintain employment.

News reports across the country show that childcare costs are not only affecting family budgets but also influencing parents’ decisions about work. In fact, rising childcare costs are forcing many parents, particularly mothers, to reduce their working hours or leave the workforce entirely.

I also came across Sherell Rodgers, a mother and grandmother who understands this struggle firsthand. Rodgers shared that the cost of childcare has made it difficult for her to decide whether working full time is even worth it. Like many parents, she has had to consider cutting back her work hours in order to manage childcare responsibilities.https://fortune.com/2024/10/03/spiking-childcare-costs-forcing-mothers-work-fewer-hours-or-none/?

Rodgers’ experience highlights a common reality for many families today. Parents are often forced to weigh the financial benefits of working against the high cost of childcare.

As childcare costs continue to rise, many parents are looking for creative solutions, while childcare providers like Towanna Bridges Oats are trying to adapt and support families the best they can. However, until childcare becomes more affordable and accessible, many working parents will continue to face the difficult balance between earning a living and caring for their children.

  • Sunday Routine Continues for a Single Father — Even After Football Season

When I first spoke with Mr. Walker for my story Inside a Single Father’s Sunday, his weekends revolved around the excitement and tradition of football season. Sundays meant grocery runs, preparing meals for the week, and settling in to watch his favorite team, the Chicago Bears, while spending time with his children. Football created a sense of rhythm and anticipation in his household.

Now that football season has come to an end, I decided to follow up with Mr. Walker to see how his Sundays have changed.

Although the Chicago Bears are no longer playing, Mr. Walker says he still keeps the same Sunday routine. The difference now is how he fills the time that was once dedicated to football. Instead of watching the NFL on his 65-inch television, he now keeps up with Sunday NBA games, often streaming them on his phone while he moves around the house completing other tasks.

Mr. Walker explained that Sundays have become a little quieter since the football season ended, but he has learned to use that time more productively. One of the things he enjoys most is cooking. Preparing some of his favorite dishes has become a Sunday tradition that helps him relax while also getting ready for the busy work week ahead.

When he’s not watching basketball highlights or cooking, Mr. Walker says he often spends part of the day watching movies on Netflix. It has become a simple way to unwind before the responsibilities of Monday return.

Despite finding new ways to spend his Sundays, Mr. Walker admits the day feels a bit more somber without football. For him, the energy of game day brought a special excitement to the end of the week.

Still, the routine remains important. Sundays are about resetting, preparing, and taking a moment to breathe before the week begins again. And while the NBA and Netflix help fill the time, Mr. Walker says he is already looking forward to the return of football season.

  • Many people often debate whether to own a home with an HOA or to buy a home without an HOA. This has been a debate that has been trending all across the country in the state of Georgia. This has recently become a trending topic because many HOA residents are not happy about the monthly or yearly fees they have to pay. Mahogonay Scott says that she is satisfied with her choice of purchasing a home in the quaint town of Newton County, Georgia. She explained that what she pays in fees for her community offers the convenience of a Community home for special events, a tennis court, and, of course, a pool for the kids in the summer. Mahogonay also expressed that she appreciates the noise ordinance that was put in place, along with strict rules to keep the yards maintained to prevent eyesores.

According to Atlanta News First, { As of early 2026, Georgia lawmakers are considering sweeping legislation to reform Homeowners Associations (HOAs) following investigations into predatory foreclosure practices. Key bills (HB 1036, HB 1035, SB 393, SB 107) aim to ban foreclosures for non-tax debts, allow homeowners to dissolve HOAs, enforce financial transparency, require registration with the Secretary of State, and ensure election integrity. } https://share.google/6vp7iEO9lZUY2J97b Many residents throughout the Georgia area have been putting in complaints with the state because they feel like the HOA has a form of predatory practices, and that they see no value in having HOA in communities and want to do away with it all.

Curtis Magniumin of Finders Home Realty agrees. During our interview, he explained that owning a home without it being governed by an HOA offers more flexibility and freedom when it comes to making decisions about your property.

According to Magniumin, homeowners without HOA restrictions have the ability to personalize their homes without needing approval from a board. Whether it’s adding a fence, parking certain vehicles, choosing exterior paint colors, or making landscape changes, the process is often simpler and more direct.

He also noted that without monthly HOA dues or special assessments, homeowners may experience fewer recurring fees. However, he emphasized that the responsibility for maintaining property standards falls entirely on the individual homeowner.

Ultimately, he believes the decision comes down to lifestyle preference — whether someone values structured community oversight or prioritizes independence and personal control over their home.

Two neighborhoods, two approaches to community living. In the end, whether governed by rules or guided by individual choice, a community is shaped not just by policies, but by people who live there.

  • Nicole Pressley is a hardworking mother who currently works about 30 hours a week. Per the interview, the conversation centered around welfare-to-work programs, daycare benefits, and the difficult financial decisions many working families face when they fall into the gap between earning “too much” to qualify for help and not earning enough to truly get by. During our interview, Nicole explained that she has applied for assistance programs, hoping to receive support with food and childcare. However, because of her work hours and the child support she receives, she does not qualify for food stamps or childcare services. On paper, it may look like she earns enough. In reality, her income barely stretches across her monthly responsibilities. Like many working parents, Nicole’s biggest financial strain is childcare. She also has to cover rent, car insurance, and everyday living expenses. Without assistance, daycare alone consumes a significant portion of her income. This has placed her in an incredibly difficult position. She shared that she may have to reduce her hours or quit working altogether and rely solely on her partner’s income, simply because she can no longer afford daycare while trying to keep up with everything else. Nicole expressed that even partial childcare assistance would make a life-changing difference. She believes that if she could just get help covering daycare costs, it would close the financial gap that keeps her constantly falling behind. That single form of support could help her stay employed, remain independent, and keep her household stable month to month. I filmed this interview in Stockbridge, where Nicole took a few moments after we wrapped to chat briefly with a coworker during her break. It was a short but genuine moment of joy — a quick laugh and conversation before she had to clock back in to finish her six-hour shift. That moment reflected something powerful: even under stress and uncertainty, small pockets of connection and happiness still matter. Nicole’s story highlights a reality many families experience — working hard, yet still struggling to stay afloat without support systems that meet them where they are.
